i just refill my tank with all the small tropical fishes. and i need a good external filter to clean my tank.

Tank Size: 4ft x 2ft x 2ft (normally my water level reach 1.2ft only)

I come across Hagen Fluval Filter
http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_filter...nal.asp?CartId=

i'm not really sure which model suit my tank.

Anyone has any recommendation on filter?

oh ya, one more question, what is the difference between normal "pump filter" vs "canister filter"?

Thanks!

Hold on - so you have a bunch of fish in your tank with no filter? If so, return the fish to your LFS. Also, have you cycled the tank? If not, read the links in my signature carefuly. You can't just 'add fish' to an empty tank. Also, why don't you fill the tank up completely? If you're worried about them jumping or something, just buy a cheap hood and some lights.

Any filter would do, I'll let someone else give you advice on those. I personaly use internal Fluval filters but it's realy down to personal prefference. BTW, this is an example fo a canister filter.

'Pump' filters? I've never ehard of this term so I assume it's just another name for any filter that uses a pump (which is pretty much all of them :p).

In terms of best quality Id say an "eheim" external if youve got the money although theyre often floating around second hand on ebay. Make sure if you buy new that it comes with media as eheim media is expensive and isnt always packaged with filter.

how much can an 'eheim' external new unit normally cost?

I wouldn't touch fluval as I (and many others) have had serious problems with them leaking and not re-priming after maintenance.

I would say Eheim, a second hand one for that tank size should be around £40-£70. new could costs anywhere up to the £150 mark and even beyond, depending on which model you go for.

LFS is Local Fish Shop.

LFS means Local Fish Shop, I think. I have been here a few weeks and some of the accronyms confuse the hell out of me, I think that is right though.

Rich.
