Im in a right quandry as to which type of cory to buy, I want to get 6 and they will probably be the last part of my new tank jigsaw. i already have 4 swords, 2orange and 2 pandas, 4 honey dusted mollies, 4 male guppies 2 deep blue and 2 black, 8 neon tetras and 6 juvinile Boesemni rainbows. The more i look at them the more undecided i am AGGH

What type do you  prefer and why

I have peppered corys. Yes, they are a common fish in tropical aquariums but they are peaceful, do no harm and are active day and night. Get quite a few as they don't grow very big and do like to have similar tank mates, generally getting together during rest-times and remaining motionless on the bottom until the next surge of activity. They like a sandy substrate and can be seen snuffling through the particles looking for who-knows-what.

I expect this is the case for most species of corys but personally I rather like these little critters.

My favourites are Sterbai, purely for looks. I suspect there isn't a lot of difference as regards behaviour or requirements for most Corys

The most commonly seen corys are bronze, albino, sterbai, pandas, peppered & trilineatus - often sold as Julii
Peppered need cooler temperatures as do pandas & trilineatus, sterbai can take higher temperatures, bronze & albino are pretty adaptable & do well in a range of temperature.
Keep them in single species groups of 6+ for them to be happy & exhibit more natural behaviours
There are around 400 species of corys so plenty to choose from but finding the less commonly seen ones can be tricky though some Lfs can order in for you.
My personal favourites are Adolfoi & C.schultzei black.
Have a look here, use the drop down box to see all the species listed

I concur with what others have mentioned.  I would also add that wild-caught fish can be more demanding of water parameters.  The majority of species mentioned here are being commercially raised, and this does make a difference.  Corys are highly sensitive to water parameters and conditions.  Knowing your water parameters from another thread, I would say you are OK with the commercially-raised species.

Byron.

If I were you I would get more of the same species of cories you already have. The more the merrier with cories. :)

Thankyou for the link lilefishy it was very helpful, i like the look of the adolfoi as well but not in any of my LFS
Byron i have to say i did not really consider whether the fish would be wild caught or not as i kind;ve assumed that most fish from commercial shops would be tank bred.
Tall tree i dont actually have any Corys yet Lol Any ways i think im pretty much decided on getting 6 sterbai so thank you all for your advice.

Ohhhh, I see. I thought you meant you had 2 sword plants, 2 Orange cories and 2 panda cories. But you have 4 sword tails instead. Silly me.

Sterbai cories have always been a personal favorite of mine. You'd be making a good choice to get six of them IMO. :)

yep sterbai it is
