Hi,

I have a 30" x 12" x 18" tank. I was wondering what smaller cichlids would be suitable for it?

I'm open to anything, with or without tankmates, but I would prefer something that is not too sensitive or requiring specific water conditions. My tap water is very hard and reasonably high in nitrate.

I've spotted several I'm quite keen on, but not sure who is suitable for my tap water or tank water. I am quite fond of dwarf cichlids but not if they are too sensitive.

Any help much appreciated.

Check out my thread in Tropical Discussions called "Qualified Suggestions For Stocking Please" There are some well useful tips and links in there from members that you may like :good:

Post the fish you're keen on, then others will chip in and say if they are suitable or not, and if not suggesting alternatives. That way we're not just spamming stocking suggestions and get an idea of what you want.

I'm interested in any dwarf cichlid, but I've heard mixed reports about which species would be suitable for my water.

I'm also interested in fish like Convicts, or anything of a similiar size or smaller, but again I hear wildly different accounts of what tank size would be suitable.

You could do a pair of convicts in that size tank (beware of the excess fry, it might sound nice now but trying to rehome 100's of fry wont be fun).

What water conditions have you got? As long as you havn't got extremes most fish can adapt as they are now mostly farmed and not wild caught.

i have convicts in my 32" tank and its facinating to watch but you will need to see who will take your mass amount of fry you could also try a pair of sajica
