Hi everyone, nice to meet you all . My name is Debbie and my husband and I have just set up a tank for our son William. It has been running with no fish in it since Christmas - the reason why it was running so long was that we were waiting for William to choose which fish he wanted.........! The tank is 64lites and has artificial plants and a few small pots in it. My husband has been adding Filterstart from the moment it was set up as and when it was required.

Right, the nitty gritty - we put 3 platties in the tank 3 days ago and all is well with them. As the Filterstart has been working in activating the filters we then decided to add most of the other tankmates all at once. These comprised of two male guppies( females to follow), nine neons, two albino corydoras and two shrimps. We floated the bag for about 20 mins, then added some of the tank water and left the bag approximately another 20 mins then carefully introduced everyone into the tank. The last to go in was one of the shrimps and I saw it disappear downwards into the water. Everyone looks absolutely fine but we haven't seen either shrimp since then, not a sign!

The shrimps seemed quite lively and confident in their tank in the shop - are they just hiding? I am worried that somehow they were so lively that somehow they've managed to jump out of the tank whilst the lid was up - can someone please tell me this isn't possible and hopefully explain why we can't see hide nor hair of them.

Sorry to jump in and not say much by way of hello but we are worried where they are.....

Any advice REALLY appreciated! I used to keep tropical fish myself and had a brief go at marines but that was a while ago and I never kept shrimps. It might sound daft thinking that they've jumped out but that happened once to one of my danios so I know it can happen.

Thanks very much.

how long has it been since you put the shrimp in im guessing that the are just settling in

About 3 hours. The rest of the new ones seem to be already settled. My husband even dismantled the filter and looked through it - I'm so worried that they've jumped out - but we would have heard something? And both of them jumping out?

But we've looked absolutely everywhere, they just don't seem to be in the tank - they're about the size of the neons.

I would buy about 5 shrimps, they seem better in larger numbers, my Platys are scared of my Armano Shrimps.

as above they will probably hide for a few days but they are much more confident if you keep a group of them.

They hide for ages then just when you've given up and about to pop to the LFS... out they come. It's like they know or something! Mine went for a whole month, then turned up - but bigger!

honestly i think a better name for shrimps are little houdini's because they can disapper in no time flat.
don't worry though they will show up again when they get hungry. just like cats, they only want you when they are hungry
