hello all

where would i put peat in my external filter to help lower my ph?

ive got 2 filters could i put peat in one with carbon pads and use my other filter as its ment to be used

and would this help in keeping my water from going realy brown

What make/model of filters do you have? Peat can be put into your filter if you have the space. I wouldn't suggest removing "all" of the media though, best to keep at least some in there if you can. Peat as you know will turn your water brown with tanins. I've never tried to remove it with carbon (because I like it and so do the fish) but I have read that it may defeat the pH lowering properies that you are trying to achieve. Wouldn't hurt to try it I suppose. Run it with peat for a while and test, then add the carbon and test. If you do this, please let us know how it turns out. Perhaps someone who has tried peat with carbon will respond.

edit: Make sure you are using peat that is OK for aquarium use. If you're not sure, please ask about it or do a search on the site.
