As this is my first time of keeping a Betta, I was just wondering - should I buy one that looks healthy from my LFS, or should I fork out quite a lot and buy a pukka male from somewhere like thebettalady.co.uk?

I've seen several cheap bettas that look quite healthy in my LFS - I'm just not sure. What did you guys do for your first Betta?

Thanks =]

I bought my first from the LFS and then moved onto imported bettas and now breed my own! I'm glad I did it in stages personally but its all dependent on taste I'd say if you see one you fall in love with regardless of where its from- buy it :) I did I bought mine because he was in an LFS killing all the other fish he was so angry and macho I had to have him and I didnt care where he was from because I loved him

Haha that sounds like a pretty awesome betta :p

Yeah stages sound good - I think I'll just have a look round my LFS in a week or so, and see what I like.

Do you think I should put my corydoras in first? Or the Betta?

Hi

Ref the Cories - They do actually prefer a mature tank :good: Not sure if your tank is new or not :)

Cheers yeah it's new - just set it up last week

I'm staring at various betta pictures ot keep me going until I get mine! haha

At the moment, I'm cycling with 2 mollies from my mahussive tank, and I'll put them back across when it's all set-up - shouldn't be too long (I used media etc etc).

If cories prefer more mature tanks is there anything else I can put into my Betta tank that won't detract from him but should be pretty awesome in their own right. Actually that sounds really difficult hehe - I just mean anything else that is nice but not too colourful or different? What about otos - are they hardier?

thanks all :D

NO! ottos are not hardy and will die in a smaller tank due to the lack of algae, an otto should be put in a tank with lots of algae and should be mature (6 months +)
