I am in the process of setting up a new tank and was hoping someone can tell me where i can buy ammonia to help with cycling. I didn't need need this for my other tanks as the filters and decor were given to me and had only been out of use for less than 24hrs. At present in the new tank i have some old tank water, some filter media (from other tank) and some plants.
I have tried various places but to no avail.

Have you tried a hardware store? That's usually where people get some. Just make sure to get some with no additives. Good luck!

you can cycle your tank with the filter you already have, alot of people do that.

not sure how long you do it for though

You could indeed make use of your current tank to cycle the new one, either by running the new filter on the old tank for a bit or by transferrring a bit of filter media from the old filter to the new one.

However if you want to fishless cycle with ammonia your best bet is a hardware store as someone already said. If you're really sesperate you could phone Jeyes who manufacture pure ammonia for hosuehold use and ask them where your nearest stockist is. :dunno:

I had the same problem when I was looking for ammonia you can purchase it at any large outlet food store in the cleaning department. I kept looking down the wrong aisles and went to the pharmacy at one point, sad it’s true. You can find it usually in 2 litter containers although you don’t need very much at all. I hope this helps.
