Hi Robbo85, The best place I know is swallow Aquatics at Stanway just outside Colchester (yes I know its in Essex- well worth the journey though) They keep quite a wide range of plants but you must time it right (they either are waiting for a delivery or they have just had one) The plants are always in a lovely condition. Will be going over on Sunday myself to re-stock my tank. You may even be tempted by their fish.
thanks a lot specks. what fish and plants that i could get from ther would you recomend. i am after unusual fish that arnt fin nippers that would suite a comunity tank of mainly mollies, tetras glass catfish, shrimp and a red claw crab
I'm sorry I dont know the names of many aquatic plants, I'm more used to gardening outside, when I go to purchase plants I pick the ones that I like the look of. As far as what fish to get it would depend on size of tank & how many you already have. I am no expert on unusual fish as my tank holds the usual mollies, swords, tetras etc. You would do better to post in a fishy section of the forum, hope you manage to find what you are looking for. I have found out that there is a family run fish shop at Felixstowe, my son has said he will take me over at the weekend to check it out. I believe it is on Grange Road (wherever that is).
The type of plants that will do well in your tank are dependant on factors such as lighting, PH, substrate and type of fish. You can do some research using a site such as www.tropica.com before you head off to the store.
i'd recommend Greenline (as mentioned above) i recieved 2 tiger lotus lillys and 2 clumps of hairgrass yesterday and cant fault them at all (but dont bother with the riccia, it's not the best)
EDIT: sorry just to go back on myself. the riccia i got from them was the japanese version (just called them to query it) hence why i thought is wasn't very good. if thats the one you want then theres nothing wrong with it.
Hey Robbo, I went to that fish shop at Felixstowe. They sell all the usual run of the mill fish - livebearers, tetras etc. I wont bother going back as besides not having much stock there were a few poorly & dead fish. Will continue to do my livestock shopping at Swallow - Colchester.
thats the store where i got my red claw crab. and i think i once got a fighter that died a few weeks later. I dont recomend it unless its your local. i take it there was nothing there you dont see in most stores. Its not the best but on the plus side my red claw is doing great
Nothing unusual at all Robbo. I must admit the big display tank at the end of the store which was home to a large number of clown loaches was quite impressive. As I dont live in Felixstowe I wont be going back. Swallow is still my favourite.
