Basically i have 9 variatus platy (v. platy for short) fry in a 21 litre tank. they were born in early august last last year so they're about 4 months old? Anyway I'm worried the small tank is stunting they're growth. The biggest one is just over a cm long, the rest are smaller and the smallest is about half that size. I'm sure that's too small for their age. There are a few from my other female that were born a bit later (less than 2 weeks) I didn't catch and they are now nearly 2 cm. Is that cos the smaller ones were eaten? Or is it because they weren't stunted?

Should I put them in the 90 litre tank with the adults? Or will they be eaten straight away?
Or should I leave them in the fry tank?

By the way when they get to 2 cm I'm going to give them to my lps (local pet shop) so if i put them in the big tank I'd just have to catch them again.
Thanks guys :)

Hello,
I think how fast they grow depends on how much water they have, how often you do water changes, how much you feed and what is the temperature. If you ask me drop them in the bigger tank they should be OK. The rule is that if they can not fit the parents mouth they are not going to get eaten. Make sure you have some plants for them to hide and not stress out too much. Also what I would do is I would catch the biggest once and move them to the big tank and keep the smaller once in the current fry tank you are using in that way they will get some more space and will be able to eat better, then when they get bigger I`d move them to the main tank. I am doing absolutely the same thing with a bunch of sword tail fry, I actually used to keep them in a breeding net, then I got ##angry## off and moved them to a 2,5 gal tank I have at home and after I moved them to a 10 gal tank, they went to the local pet store last week- finally, there is another group of fry I have been juggling around so I can fit everyone and give them space to grow I am getting overstocked big time but they need a few more weeks before I drop them in the store or they will become feeder fish ... hope this helps :D

Thanks Nenana I'm going to do a water change now in my adult tank and move the biggest few in.... should be fun catching them again when they get bigger.

Ok done a water change and I also did a little one in the fry tank - only about 10% - and replaced the water with adult tank water so the conditions will be similar.
