I know alot of hobbyists don't even bother getthing their tanks new. Some get theirs from garage sales, news paper ads, friends, family, etc... Where do you get your source of second hand tanks?

I've seen some nice ones on ebay that if I had the money for shipping I'd be all over..
Plus our news paper, and sometimes in the small indipendant LFS

Got my second 30g from a guy selling it to make room for a 100g while working at an LFS. Got the stand, filter, lighting and heater with it all for $50 too. :D

I usually get mine at garage sales. Most people don't stay in the hobby a year so they are willing to get rid of their tank for a nominal fee just to get it out of the house.

Bought my 70Gal from LFS, one of their ex quarantine. It was £40, which might be a bit expensive although it was the exact dimensions I wanted.

I got my 55 gal, 20 gal and 10 gal from freecycle.org. They came with stands, lights and filters

I got two 30 gallons with everything (Lights, filters, stand, heater, and tons of extras) for $100. :) I found it in my local trading paper. They always have lots of tanks to give away...I guess people around here aren't into fish much anymore. Crazy people! :p

1st tank-bought half price in sale-£20
2nd tank free
3rd tank free
4th tank charity shop-£10
5th tank-half price when lfs moving premises-£200

Some of my tanks and equipment are from garage sales, and one I even picked up off the curb where someone had put it out with the trash. I also bought a number of 20 and 10 gallon tanks from a lfs that was reducing the number of fish they stocked. I really lucked out on those!

Auctions, other breeders who are upgrading.
