I was just wondering what kinds of places you people buy your fish from...? Do you go to pet shops, your friends, breeders...what? Because I know that pet shops aren't always the greatest places to buy from but what are some other choices?

Like with some of you who post images of your fish - I notice that some of you have gorgeous Bettas (or other fish) of such vivid color and variety that one probably would not find in a pet shop...

I go to a local aquarium. They only sell aquariums, fish and related dry goods no other pets.
So there's always a huge number of fish to choose from (coldwater/freshwater and marine).

I have also used aquatic departments at a couple of local garden centres.

English Lion, Which shops do you use? Waterzoo, The barn and Wyvale? I find the Maidenhead aquatics department in the Wyvale very good.

I live in a very small town in upstate/central New York. There isn't much around here. Currently I go to the closest city (still a small city) for fish and fish supplies in this small pet shop in the mall. I don't think this pet shop is anything big or part of any chain of stores, I think it's just independently owned. It's called Pet Paws and it's got all sorts of animals and supplies. I guess it's a good pet shop. I'm not sure what a good pet shop is <=/ I think the closest place with any real good, revered, or recommended fish places would be Albany but that's an hour+ drive away >_< I can't really get there so often.

i stick to breeders, since prices are super good, and i go to GCCA auctions and swap meets. I have done business through aquabid.com a couple times been pretty good.

I'm a regular at the Waterzoo, I've bought stuff from Maindenhead Aq in Wyvale crowland too.

I've also seen some unusual fish on sale at Notcutts and I know of people who are pleased with them but I've not bought from there myself.

Never been to the barn. I live south of peterborough in Yaxley so the Waterzoo is much better located for me than the barn or Maindenhead Aq.

I walked into Sunset Aq in stanground and then walked straight back out again - I don't know how they stay in business!

Heh us East Anglians, there does seem to be a lot of us on this forum considering what a small region of Britain East Anglia is.

We're in Suffolk, but when we go up your way we visit Amwell Aquatics at Soham which is big, keeps a lot of oddballs and the staff know what they're talking about.

You'll find 18" bichirs, unusual plecos & puffers lots of cichlids and a great marine section too.

Also near there is a garden centre with a hidden aquatic section stocking surprisingly unusual fish. We bought some very well marked Gold Nugget Plecos from there last time for only £8 each! That's Fordham Garden Centre at..er Fordham near Ely.

I go to Emswoth Reptiles and Aquatics- lots of tropical fish, coldwater fish (not just goldfish for a change!) and an amazing selection of reptiles and things, including- tarantulas, raibow crabs, a 15 foot python, loads of tortoises and giant millipedes. Also does a great selection of live foods, mainly for lizards, but they are great for fish too.

NEVER again at a LPS ... I'm sticking to the LFS that specializes in fish. well they have some rodenty things in the back but its sort of an afterthought.

Oh but I'll still buy supplies at Petsmart ... never setting foot again in the other LPS.
