In the U.S. ( lets say Petco) what Country do the bettas come from. Do they come from U.S. breeders, or outside U.S. like Malaysia or Thailand?

Petco won't deal with local breeders unless you can supply a region. Nearly all bettas found in pet shops are Asian imports. Other fish can come from farms in Florida or California, as well as Asia, but the Asian farms supply nearly all the pet shop bettas.

Really, that's interesting, as I had always thought they sold the cheaper fish bred in the U.S. (no offense bettas) So they really make a long journey to get here, and i bet they look at us and say "those people's faces look different" :p

In my LFS (in Canada), most of the betta's come from singapore, and some come from California. My LFS baby is from California :)

Zophie

I've been wondering, how do the pet shops in the UK and US have contacts in Asia for bettas'

Is there some kind of export market online? I'd like to see what kind of betta's they have (I've read that they have thousands of different betta's)

Yeah, and do the stores pick what colors/tail types they want, or are they just given random mixed stock?

All of the US chain pet stores get there Bettas from Asian breeders. Asians are the biggest exporters of Bettas. The ones found in the stores are there rejects. They may not be the colors they want. they may be out bred, or old or, not good show quality that they want. This is not to say they aren't any good for a pet. The Asians will keep the best for breeding and showing and sell off the rest. If you go on Aquabid in the Betta sections you will find most of the Bettas listed are from the Thai breeders.

When a boy betta and a girl betta really like each other, they make baby's.

Ask your parents about the rest.
