Hi everybody,
I was really pleasantly surprised when after completing a water change, out of nowhere swam some little baby fry. I quickly grabbed my breeding box and caught 4 in total and definitely 2 got eaten :( i don't know how long ago they were born but my white molly has been looking pregnant for ages and I'd given up trying to work out if and when she was going to have babies! not long after putting the 4 in the box they just laid on their sides lifeless in the bottom, when looking really really closely i could see the mouths or gills moving on a couple of them. I was hoping for the best and thinking that they were just weak and shell shocked or something. After I went to bed, my mum turned off the aquarium light and saw a bit of movement, but half an hour later she looked over and they were all gone!!!! Where could they have gone?!!! Surely the little slots in the breeding box are too small for them to wiggle through or get pulled through by other fish? I had put a small piece of live plant in there but I'm sure they're not hiding, they're gone! Has anyone got any ideas on what could have happened? My first baby fry and I'm don't know what's happened! Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice,
Hayley

Well its possible they swimmed back up and got eaten up by the mother.

I was thinking that but just hoping they hadn't got out of the breeding box. I couldn't have imagined them having the energy to jump out, considering how they'd just been sitting at the bottom :( I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that maybe they've managed to hide back in the tank

oh, and it was just the babies in the breeding box, the mother is in the tank, I'm puzzled!

What kind of filter is on the tank?

There definitely doesn't look to be any fry in the breeding box :( the olny gaps that would be big enough for them to jump through would be on the lid but they looked so young and weak i wouldn't have thought it possible! I just wished i's stayed up longer and sat watching them to know what happened!! The filter is an HDOM AP-650L internal filter

if they died where did they go? genuine question! could other fish have pulled them through the box and eaten them?

since being so small they could of rotted, do you see any matter in the box?

Have no idea if fish can get sucked into an internal filter?

no nothing in the box, no rotten matter, just an empty box half an hour after last seeing them in there, i think its just one of those mysteries and maybe i'll get a surprise one day and they've got back into the tank and hidden themselves in the the live plant!!! wishful thinking maybe, but i'll just have to wait and see! thanks for all your help.

this is were your fry have probably gone
It is possible for fry wiggle through the breeding box slots and it is possible for fry to be sucked through the slots by other fish  especially if the fry were laying on bottom of breeder box
