hey there, im brand new!
hahah in more ways then one, i just joined this site after reading a whole bunch of posts, and was totally impressed. i have a question, i have a small turtle and 6 fish in a tank, the tank is a 20 gal. the fish are great, my turtle dosent bug them, he actually scarred of them, but heres the thing, i got 2 guppies, and a tetra and a sowrdtail to keep him company, i also have to alge eaters. apperantly i bout a male and female, because i recently found some fry at the bottom of my tank...7 total........i can not for the life of me find any trace of my female.....where could she be.... would she have died because i didnt know to seperate her?

buhguh im so confused, help me to solve my problem PLEASE!

Dont panick is the key here, if you female was perfect fit and healthy to begin with she is probably lolling around behide some rocks or something, simply take your time and look thoroughly through the tank, if she has died for causes unknown it is best to remove the body as soon as possible, incase of illness and you dont want to other fish getting infected, if you have left it a while, fish are cannibles and so may have eaten the body (HEAVEN FORBID THAT TO BE THE CASE) otherwise as i said, she might be recovering from the birthing and so resting slightly out of sight, i am sure you know, birthing can be a stressful business even for fish, just look for her, even if you have to get your hands a little wet, just find her and make sure she is ok that way then you can relax

;)

i actually have moved things around, and cant find her still.... my male looks like hes trying to mate the sorwdfish.....its a female, should i be concerned about her getting pregnant?....

Its not uncommon for guppies to die after giving birth. I have no idea why it happens, but its a questions I've seen come up often enough to come to the conclusion that it not that uncommon. Its possible she died and was simply eaten by other fish (they do this). Its also quite possible that the turtle ate her. He may be "scared of the fish" but after giving birth she would have been weakened and made an easy meal....... My bet is on the turtle..............

thats what i thought, DAMN YOU RAPHEAL< I BUY U FREINDS AND U EAT THEM! silly turtle, oh well at least i saved the babies, how long should i wait to put them back in the tank.... i want to make sure they are ok, they are my babies! will the male i havenow go after the small females?
