Hi,

Since Friday I cannot find one of my yellow labs. I have not been able to sex them. He/she does not appear for the twice daily feeding frenzy. I am 99% sure that it is still alive in there somewhere (I have lots of hidey holes for them). I have looked up the breeding of them, and it says that the female will hid one she has a mouthful. At the moment they are about 2" long. Is it possible that it is a female is brooding, and that she wouldnt come out for food?

How long have you had them? Cichlids do tend to hide until they are settled and sure of their surroundings. Where in Kent are you?

I have had them for about a month. I am in Paddock Wood, near Tonbridge. Quite a way from Ashford (about 40 minutes).

Yes I know Paddock Wood, Mum-in-law lives in Tun Wells, and I've been to Jackswood garden centre near you. Hopefully your yellow lab is hiding. Not sure the haps are a good mix though, they are quite aggressive.

That was why I got a ratio of 6 labs to the others. I really am a complete novice when it comes to malawis, and I just went on the say so of a local LFS (not Jackswood as they do not stock Malawis).

Could be ok then. I'm relatively new to cichlids as well. Had my frontosa since last November but mixing the smaller cichlids is new. I've got a male hap ahli and have been wondering what to put with him. Will go to my lfs tomorrow and ask advice. If I get the same advice as you it should be ok. I'd love some electric yellow labs.

Too late. I was wrong, we have just done a filter change and found the missing lab behind it dead. It looked perfect. I dont know why. Just a bit gutted really!! :-(

So sorry to hear that :-( . Perhaps it was just a poorly fish, sometimes you do loose one when a new batch is bought. Stress etc. Hope the others are ok now, sure they will be.
