I have read not to breed veiltales. thats all I can find in the shops.

where else can you buy betta from? I want to breed. I have a crown tail male.

edit... im not sayin vt's arent nice, that sounded bad

Hi
The only people that will tell you not to breed VT's are breeders that consider them mutts. There is nothing wrong with breeding them, especially if you have VT's that are a different colour from the normal reds and blues. the biggest problem with breeding VT's is seeling the babies, as obviously they are the easiest bettas to find at LFS's.

As you already have a male CT, you would be better off getting a female CT. Modaz (DPfishways) sometimes has them as does Devon Charm (the betta lady). There may even be one on ebay at present, not sure, being sold by a seller called olsen.

You have to bear in mind the age of your male though? If you bought him from an LFS, he could have been anything from 6 months to over a year at that time. They can be bred when they are older, but the fry may not be as numerous or healthy.

Other places to find bettas of varying tail types -

Me & Netty
Ebay
Aquabid (bit pricey when you add the shipping)

Obviously you are a bit away from breeding at present, but without sounding boring, make sure you have everything you need first :good: e.g. spawning tank, growout tank, jars, microworm cultures, brineshrimp etc etc......

Good luck

I got all but one of my bettas off aquabid, just because I wanted realy nice fish to start off with and there was nobody local selling any decent fish at the time. I also before I got any bettas.... found and drug home all the equipment I needed.... look in the papers, on craigs list and go yard saleing and try and find the cheap spawning tanks/grow out tanks and all other bits and bobs, Ive got now...2-2gallons, now 2-5 gallons, 2-10 gallons a 20 long and a 29 gallon and 2 large plastic tupperwares for growing out a huge spawn of fry if nessary....and the only things I actualy paid money for was heaters/homemade dividers and 1 nice looking stand for in the living room.

fry food and food for the parents is also a small investment of money.

a problem my sister is running into, with all the advice to not breed vts because they are more commen, is in the us cts are becomeing more commen, thus her ct spawn was harder to move then her hm spawn. thats also something else to think about specific for your area.

and now I will shamelessly show off a pic of a aquabid betta I have bought....you can probebly get just as nice if not nicer fish off of netty/bronzecat-modaz-devon charm. constantine03 has some stunning babies right now, but she lives in the us so is unable to ship that far.

my 3rd aquabid fish his name is Whip
