i had this problem once so before i realised them i turned up the drip to just a flow to get the temp back up. when it was equal I realised.

i was aclimatising a fishy to brackish at the time.

I quarantine every new fish that I get for 3 weeks or more (Depending on the fish's condition) For those who don't quarantine, your gambling with your fish's lives, you could get lucky and have a healthy fish, or, more likely, get a sick fish and have to treat your whole tank instead of one little quarantine.

Im very suprised that your water temperature manages to drop 5 degrees in a hour, how cold is your home?!!!

Ive never experienced this as a problem as since the water is continually dripping from the tank the water in the bucket is the same or within 1 degree of the water in the tank.
This was only a couple weeks ago and the AC was on (will be from now through the summer). I keep the thermostat set at about 74 or 75 but it is in a room with a vaulted ceiling so the temp in there is a little off and the hot air can rise a little higher too. I may have had the drip going too slow too since that was the first time I've ever tried it. How fast should the drip be, ie, how long should it take to fill a 5 gallon bucket. I had mine so slow that it probably would have taken 3 or 4 hours to fill it.

My fish house is at a steady 80 degrees. I've never had a problem with water dropping a degree. I'll stick with the method that has done me right for the last 38 years. It work for me, and I'll stick to it.
