I bought a female betta about 3 weeks ago . She was really beat up and barely had fins and didnt move much..i knew if i didnt buy her she wud have no chance so i did.. Now shes got some fins back and looking great and getting plump. My problem is is that she has had horizontal stripes on her throught all these weeks.. The only time ive seen her with vertical is when she eats(she eats so much! :p) im planning on breeding her with my male in a few weeks till she gets all her fins back but shes always swimming around and has 4 white clouds in with her but she still has those stripes :(...why is this???

yeh mine has always had them and ive had her for nearly a year heres a pic :)

one of my girls always has horizontal stripes and one has permenant vertical ones.

If ur asking me i do a water change every week..about 20% maybe more it depends on the day :p and how can i tell if shes ready to breed if all she has is horizontal??

that was taken once i had moved her in there after taking it on from my brother who had no cleaning routien it was before i cleaned it its all sparkly now :)

Your Betta is very happy and ready to breed. Female Bettas will display verticle bands usually white on the sides of their bodies to signal to a male Betta that she is ready to mate. My guess is you have a male nearby and she can see him from her tank.

Yea i do actually they can see each other clearly thru a divider but she has horizontal lines not vertical ..but those lines r not going away watsoever, even if i take away the male from her sight
