Hey all hope your all well...

Im now a week into cycling and so far so good I think??

Got my first lot of ammonia in tanks been running a week with décor and 2 live plants(no fish).Got a api test kit as well and ammonia was 0.25 ppm no2 and no3 were 0,ph was 6.6 ish.

Do these sound normal for the stage that im at? Bear in mind the ammonia has only gone in after this test as the postman was a little slow delivering it yesterday. Up until that point I was using interpet safe start and the same brand tap safe.

What sort of readings am I looking for to start stocking the fish, I know im a week or 2 away yet according to several different websites, but I would just like to know what I am aiming for?

From what I've read im looking for ammonia to be 0 ppm and nitrite to also be 0 ppm, but what about nitrate what does that need to be at?

As always any help is appreciated..

You may be better off posting in THIS section.

Have you read THIS? It sounds like you havn't added enough ammonia to reach 3ppm yet.

Hopefully one of the cycling gurus will be able to answer you shortly :p

Ive just tested again and here are the results.

PH 7.6 ish
No2 0 ppm
No3 0pp
Ammonia 4 ppm.

As I've only just put the ammonia in yesterday (its been around 17hrs ago) what should I do if anything. Should I leave the tank to work itself out.im assuming the beneficial bacteria need time to turn the ammonia into nitrate

Yes leave it be, it will take time. At this point you want to test every 3 days. Follow the article closely and you shouldn't have any problems. :)
