Ok, I have had the filter from my old tank in my new 180L now for 5 days. I am going to sell the old tank with all equipment soon, and just wondered when it would be safe to move out? The tank was left cycling for 5 days, but then as soon as I added the old filter (with needed bacteria), I added the fish. ;)

But now, I am unsure on how long it will take before the newer filter can handle the fish by itself? Is it going to be days, weeks, or months? As I say, its been 5 days, roughly how much longer is needed?

As a rough guide about 6 to 8 weeks. Alternatively put your old filter media in the new filter and buy some new stuff to put in the old one when you sell it.

We its definately not that long. West Bridgeford always cycle there tanks this way and they wait around 2 weeks until removing them, I just wanted to make sure I did everything right. :)

Do you know what there water is like after they take the old filter out have you seen water test results.

I am good friends with the owner. I don't know the actual water parameters, but this is what they do. ;)

(1) Thoroughly clean new tanks
(2) Add water straight from tap
(3) Add AquaSafe to water and let it stand for 24 hours
(4) Add filter from an established tank the next day, and add fish an hour later

That is what they do, and I did exactly the same this time. They always have healthy fish and death numbers are low.

Please let us all know how you get on what happens with your nitrite in two weeks.

i reckon your nitrite will shoot through the roof, 2 weeks is way to short, the amount of bacteria which will have transfered over in that time will not be able to cope with the amount of nitrite that will be present in that time. -_-
