Hi all
I managed to catch 15 molly fry on Sunday (they were born sat night/ early sunday morning)and put into my breeder (the ones that float ontop of the tank). I have two breeders, a small one and a large one. I have put 7 babies in the small one and 8 in the large one along with another baby (think its a platy) that is about 2 and a half weeks old.
I have 2 spare tanks, both 30 litres, ready for the fry to be moved into.
Question is, when should I move these? Should they be in there all ready or shall I wait a few weeks until they are a little bigger.
Also it looks like my guppy is ready to drop so will all the babies be ok in the same tank?

Thanks :)

I prefer to move fry to grow out tanks immediately.. do make sure the water parameters match the tank they were born in.

The sooner you move your fry to a larger container, the sooner they will have adequate growing room. What have you done to begin cycling your grow-out tank? Just like a tank for adults, a mature filter in a fry tank is a must have item. If your main tank is mature, cleaning the main tank's filter in the new fry tank should give you an adequate head start on cycling the new tank's filter. Right after much of the dirt settles, the tank will be ready for your fry. If you let the tank just sit without fish for a week or two after that, you will lose much of the benefit of that filter cleaning.

I used my main tank water, topped up with new water (treated of course).
My sponge filter had been running in my main tank for about 2 weeks.
Hopefully this will be ok for the fry.

they have been in a good few days now and they seem fine.

Stay on top of your fry tank's water chemistry. You will need to do lots of large water changes just like any other fish-in cycle would need. I have never seen a filter cycle in an established tank in 2 weeks and the water you transferred had no benefit at all for the new filter. The water you moved does have the benefit of starting out matched to the water the fry were accustomed to living in.
