Well all my little corys died. :-( I bought some cute corys I kept them in a quarantine tank for 4 weeks They are all dead now. I think I know why but that's another story.

I have 6 Red eye tetras that have been in the same tank with them. They are all fine never looked sick all are eating well and none died. SO I am wondering if it would be ok to move them to the big tank. Since they were never sick to start with. YET theywere with sick fish.

Should they go in the 55 gal today. They have been in Quarantine for 3 weeks and are fine.

On a side note.

I think what killed my Coryies was..... I over crowed the quarantine tank. I did daily water changes but it still was not good enough. I think the red eyes might have stressed them out too. The Quarantine tank was very basic 10 GAL bear bottom too very little hide outs. I don't think bear bottom is good for cory cats since they end up sitting on the crap no matter how much I try and suck up the junk it seemed to stick. Since these little guys are sensitive I think the over crowding stressed them and the bear bottom caused an infection or they just died for stress. Next time I am going to not have a bare bottom and make the tank feel safer and never add so many fish. I figured I could over crowd the tank if it was only going to be for a few weeks. I had 6 red eyes and 7 corys all in the 10 Gal doing daily water changes was not good enough. . Lesson learned never over crowd a tank even if it is temporary.

Quarantine it 4 to 6 weeks.

If you have lost fish in QT, you need to continue until the un-affected stock have been in QT and fully healthy without treatment for a further 4 weeks after the last death, otherwise, you can still cross-infect the main tank with whatever you lost some of the QT tank's stock to

Yes true. But I'm thinking whatever is was only effected the corys. But I will wait longer to be safe. Thanks guys.

There aren't many diseases that are species specific. Most are pretty fish-general. 4 to 6 weeks after the last death is the bare minimum in my mind. You now know that something is in there. If you don't treat the tank, you should also suspect that it is still in there. Not worth the risk of losing an entire tank just to move them too quickly.

I just made the tank better for them. Added more fake plants for cover and gravel so they will be happyier in the tank since it will be a bit longer for them. Before the tank looked like a QT tank boring and little hide outs. Now it looks like a real tank. So another month it is .

I would actually advice that you keep the tank as bare bones as possible. No substrate. No decot. Just the filter and heater in the tank. This way you can keep it clean. Clenliness is the best way to avoid infection of the stock in QT :good:
