You can switch to flake at any time as long as it is ground up finely enough.

As mentioned you can give them finely crushed up flake at any time, however, flake food has a low protein level and fry require a better diet. If you use a powdered fry food then it would be better than crushed flake. But for only one fish just use the flake you currently have. If you get more fry then invest in some decent fry food or start hatching brineshrimp eggs and feed the fry on the newly hatched shrimp.

Naomi, small fry food is made that amounts to pellet food. You want to look for the nutritional content to be very high in protein and low in "ash". Your best fry food will be made with the primary ingredient being fish products such as fish meal. Another big plus for typical livebearer fry is spirulina. Many of our most common livebearers must have some vegetable protein in their diets.
