how long after livebearers mate do you find out that they are pregnant and how long are they pregnant for

depending on the fish, its colour, and size..sometimes its easy to spot a pregnant fish, sometimes its more difficult but i usually spot them about 2 weeks into the pregnancy...also they are pregnant for about 4 weeks..but it varies alot.!

Most livebearers are pregnant for about 27-31 days and signs could show as early as a week. Basically as soon as you see their gravid spot(the black spot that forms near the back of the belly on females) turn black, there's fry developing inside already. :)

yeah thats true but my female platy has had her gravid spot since she gave birth 5 weeks ago to 24 baby beauties so whats up with her

or sometimes the colored ones like swordtails developed a sort of whitish area going from her mouth down her belly. it's from her belly strecthing because of the babies inside.

Female livebearers are able to store a males sperm for up to 3 months, that means she could have 3 batches of fry just from one mate. She's already pregnant again b/c of the sperm thats stored from the previous male.

SO WHY IS SHE STILL GOT THE BLACK GRAVID SPOT STILL BECAUSE SHE IS STILL QUITE SKINNY

how do u get rid of the waste from the tank because my nitrate is quite high
SO WHAT DO I DO

Sometimes you can't adjust the level b/c of your tap water. Believe it or not, some tap water contains up to70 ppm of nitrates, so it's good to also test the source. But if your lucky like me and have 0 nitrates in your tap water, then do a quick 15% water change to bring them down or increase your water changes in your routine.

WERE DO U LIVE BECAUSE I WANT TO NO ABOUT YOUR WATER

do you have ammonia detoxifier? it converts the ammonia to nitrate. then the helpful bacteria in the gravel bed convert it to nitrite which is less deadly. by the way how often do you add bacteria?
