when good plants go bad…

I’m resisting the urge to heavily plant my native fish tank, for fear, they’ll all die over winter, and foul the water, while the tank is covered, and in a lower light season… it’s not unusual for aquatic plants to melt, which at that point can / could be hard to remove from the tank, except though water changes… it would seem, depending on tank conditions, that one melting plant, could trigger others to do the same… has anyone ever had this happen??? I suspect a large water change would be in order… but that may not help the plants, if it was the new water conditions that caused the melting in the 1st place… thus is one of the reasons I like terrestrial plants grown out of the tank, as I’ve rarely seen a terrestrial plants roots melt the way aquatic plants can…

Have you considered collecting some native plants from the 10,000 lakes?
They are already used to the climate.

Well, plants that should be kept in hard water can also melt when kept in soft water. The other way around as well. I had this happen a few times. I just made the wrong choice of plants at that time in relation to my water household.
