My hi fin platy fry now measure from (------) to (-------) and are only 15 days old they have what seems to be their full colouring which is a deep orange and their hi black fin and lovely black tails
I was informed that platy fry grow slowly anyway this is what i did with them

I fed them 4 times a day with small amounts of spirulina , crushed bloodworm , crushed brine shrimp eggs ,crushed algae and crushed flakes
10 litres of water changed every other day and temp kept at 26 degrees
they certainly seemed to thrive with that diet and conditions

Just posting this to see what other people do with their fry :)

Thanks Sarah xxxx

I just put all mine in a 3ft growout tank, feed them 5-7 times a day on baby brine shrimp, flake, high protien food, crushed pellets, grated frozen bloodworm and daphnia..

I do a waterchange every 5 days.

My 2 week old pin tail platys and lyre swordtails are about (-----------) big at the moemnt

it depends what fry but with platys i just feed with crushed flakes which i suck up into a popette and spray it into the plants that they hide in, after a week or two when they leave the plants i just crush up flake food and put it in when i feed the adults, after 3 weeks i'll start to feed live and frozen foods. Tubiflex is good as they can get it into there little mouths

I feed the fry 3 times a day with microworms and newly hatched brineshrimp. I feed the fish until they are full then add more so there is food swimming around the tank. Then the fry can pick up these remaining shrimp over the next few hours.
I do a 50% water change each day using water that has a similar temp & PH to the rearing tank.
When the fry are about 4 weeks old I start adding other foods like flake and frozen prawn. I feed the flake first, then the prawn, then worms, then newly hatched brineshrimp.
As the fish grow I offer them more frozen foods and less live food. I also add fish and other marine foods (squid, mussel, etc) to the diet. I feed dry foods first, then frozen, then live.
I continue doing a 50% water change each day and gravel clean the tank as well. I keep the temperature at 28C as this encourages the fish to grow rapidly.

I feed 4-5 times a day with good quality crushed flake, pureed spinach leaf or other green leafies, and peas once or twice a week (they love their pea). I do 50% water changes daily keeping the water temp. between 78-80 F.

seems like lots of water changes and lots of feeding is all people really need to do then :)

The regular water changes dilute the hormones that the baby fish release and this helps prevent stunting. Water changes also keep the water clean and stop the ammonia, nitrite & nitrate levels going through the roof.

The fry must be kept fat at all times. If they are left without food, or allowed to become skinny, they will stop growing. Fry grow most during the first 2 months of life and conditions must be ideal during this stage if you want the fish to grow to their normal size quickly.
