What's Wrong With My Snail?

I bought 2 mystery snails. One is jetting across the tank and having fun (Bulldozer, the one in my avatar ). While the other just found a nice quiet spot behind a plant and looks like he's hibernating. He's all tucked in, and is still sticking to the glass wall. Is that normal?

Sometimes my snails just chill out like that too. I wouldnt worry about it. Snails do what they want!

That's cool. I gave bulldozer some cucumber. And he climbed up on it. But now seems to have ran away after I filled the tank back up (evaporation ). Must have been the current that scared him off.

snails are nocternal, in the morning you will find him in a new spot.

i bought a snail much like yours for my tropical community tank. he had that rough edge around the mouth of his shell, and it got progressively worse. he became very inactive and eventially died. im not sure what was wrong. good thing there cheap and easily replaced.

I'm getting worried. They keep on going up for air. Bulldozer was stationed at the top of the tank where he could stick his tube out and breathe. But he fell. I came into the room and he was on the ground sticking his tube up. I turned on some lights, and he's climbing up for air. It looks like he's struggling.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my snail twitched like that before it died. it also would lay on its side for long periods of time. i got a new gold one a week ago, and he is doing fine.

Are you sure it's not normal?

well, it could be. im fairly new at aquariums. ive never seen my healthy snails jerk like that. just the one that was sickly.
but the worst thing about my sickly snail was its shell. it became almost jagged looking around the opening.

Well, It must have been due to erosion. Or it was cracked during birth. My snail's shell is fine.

Arent you still cycling that tank??? If so its probably the ammonia and nitrIte thats making your snail listless - its poisonous to snails too!!

well obviously they can't! Like the feeder fish couldn't

Well, I think of finishing my cycle today. I'll be doing a 90% water change. And I'll go exchange one of the snails for fish. Or something like that.

One thing, one of my snails is stuck in his shell for a while now, and won't go out. He's locked in there with his trap door shut. I don't know if he's dead. What does a dead snail look like?

How long was it in it's shell for? Also, is he always in the same place every morning?
