I moved my puff a little less then a week ago into a 30 gallon. It's huge, it's pretty much cycled, theres 2 bio-wheel filters that have a great culture of bacteria on teh wheels. Also theres 2 live plants in there with him. I feed him frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, snails and sometimes ghost shrimp. Ever since I moved him, he's been under stress, he has teh grey spot over his stomach. It only disapears right after I feed him. The 15 gallon that he was in before was at 1.006 saltinaty. The new tank is at 1.008. Theres nothing wrong in teh new tank, everythings fine. Do you know whats wrong? Thanks so much!!
Ron

P.S. The grey line is very dark around teh mouth and gets dimmer as it goes down the stomach line. It's disappears at the middle of the body, unter the dorsal fin.

It's just stress from the move IMO, if he is eating well and swimming around with no problems he should be back to normal soon. I would keep an eye on him for a few days to be sure he doesn't get any worse. Maybe keep the lights off for the day to see if that helps reduce the stress.

Thanks so much for the fats response! So just unplug the lights? Yes, he's eating extremely well. He gets better when I'm by the tank because he thinks I'm going to feed him. How long should I give him to get better? I moved him to his new house last Sunday. Could I get another GSP for the same tank in amonth or so? When he's all situated? I also want to add about 3 Amazon Swords before I add another one, even though there's a lot of fake and live pants in there all ready. Thanks!

If you moved him last Sunday he should be back to normal anytime now. You mentioned that the tank was "pretty much cycled" , if there is any trace of ammonia or nitrates your puffer will be affected. Have you taken any readings from your water? As for the lights I would just leave them off/unplugged for a day to see if it helps.

There's very small amounts of nitates. But won't the cultured filters and plants help that go faster? I'm learning about puffers as I go.

Aha...that would be what's causing the stress, once the nitrates are gone the puffs colors should come back to normal. I believe the aged filters and plants will speed up the process. If you notice the grey/dark patches getting darker or spreading do a water change right away. You will need to keep a close eye on the little guy until the nitrates are at 0, he should make it through better than if the tank wasn't cycled at all.
You could try adding "Bio-spira" or "Cycle" to the tank to help speed up the remainder of the cycling process.

Do most lfs sell that? Yes, his coloration never stay. Sometimes he's very dark, whne the next minute he's back to normal. He always has teh grey around his eyes and mouth, sometimes that spreads down his body. He's perfectly fine when he's feeding or hunting for food, I guess that keeps his mind off things. When he eats it seems like he swollowed a small peble and he like gulps, then goes up teh the surface and then goes down again. Is this something I should be panicing about? I can't wait till teh nitrates go away!!

I wouldn't worry, sounds like he is just gulping his food. and you should be able to get Cycle or similar prodicts at any lfs.
