Difficut to make out the problem from your photos but the last pic seemed like the leaves were thinning, yellowing and getting holes in them?

If so, it reminds me of my greenhouse in spring if I'm not careful, with the plants getting light burns. Is the light too strong for the plants?

My plants were browning and I was advised to get liquid fertiliser without phosphate or nitrate. I did, and I think it's working. Not sure if this applies to you too, or if it's light burn.

Get some flora boost and use it on your tank every week for a month...

Make sure your tank is well oxygenated, the more air the better..

PLants produce oxygen during the day for the fish, but at night the plants need oxygen, so this is why u need a good airflow in your tank with plants.

If you think it could be the lighting, then put some thin coloured plastic sheet on the top of your condensation lid (if you have one) this will help to reduce the light (or buy a less bright tube).

Also are they any snails in the tank, they are buggers for destroying plants.

Last thing i can think of is, are you feeding your fish enough, they may be nipping at the plants.

Hope this helps you.

How many wpg do you have> It most likely isn't the light, IMO. or else you would most likely be seeing lots of algae. The lower leaves may be getting over crowded and not receiving enough light so the plant is shedding them off. You actually want little aireation in planted tanks, aireation will reduce the levels of CO2 and make the plants grow slower. What fertilizers are you using?

If thats the case, what helps the plants at night time when they need oxygen?

The reason i ask is not to say your wrong in anyway whatsoever so please dont take it the wrong way, its simply for my own benefit as i have always kept my planted tanks well oxygenated and they always grown well and some are still in the tank from when i first setup, but i like to take advice from everyone and anyone and am always happy to learn something new :)

Trying to make me remember my biology class

Someone else can probably explain it better than me. During the day plants take up CO2, light energy, and water(?) to create sugar(energy). They release oxygen as a by product, this is the process of photosynthesis. At night they go through a process of respiration where it basically does the reverse process, I think. Many member including me inject our tanks with CO2, some only during the day and some 24/7. There is a pinned topic at the top of this section that explains it in great detail. Anyway the addition of CO2 makes the plants produce lots of oxygen. Plants can literally bubble oxygen, a process called pearling. This makes the water rich in both CO2 and oxygen. At night there should be plenty of oxygen left over from the photosynthesis during the day. Also I'm guessing a plant takes up very little oxygen compared to a fish. If there wasn't enough oxygen for the plants during the night, you would most likely have floating fish.

I have no idea if that is all right, so others feel free to point out anything wrong

Point out anything wrong lol, you lost me a plant :fun: I dont much about it all in detail so im off to the pinned section to learn more, thanks for reply :)

George Farmer suggests good aeration AND CO2 injection. The bubbles do decrease the concentration of CO2, but increases the amount of O2. Plants are not harmed by high levels of 02, and the fish benefit.
I think thats basically what he said... heads off to check pfk magazine...

He suggests good aeration but from good surface movement, not through a airstone.
