I was just wondering if anyone knows why java moss doesnt seem to want to live in my community tank. about 10 days ago I bought 3 bundles of java moss, I used 2 of those bundles for my betta tanks, attached to gravel in planter cups to make beds for my bettas, the rest I tried making a bed along a bare patch in my community tank. I know its only been 10 days or so but it seems that the java moss in my community tank is turning brown and the moss in my betta tanks is green still. There hasnt been any new growth yet in any of the 3 tanks but is that because it needs time to "establish"?
My community tank also has java ferns, various stem plants, a really nice anubias barteri, a lobelia cardinalis etc. I have a co2 set up thats been running for the last month or so and plant lights on a timer, the tank is around 78 to 81 degrees F. My other plants seem to do well, i get lots of air bubbles coming off my plants during the day and if i move the gravel around tons of oxygen bubbles come floating up. My betta tanks are a bit cooler, 76 degrees but besides the much calmer water thats about the only difference. all 3 tanks get furtaliser like flourish and iron supplements etc. I dont do full water changes for the betta tanks either since they're big enough and filtered, so all 3 tanks get regular partial water changes. I'm kind of lost as to whats the difference. The betta tanks dont have plant lights but they do get direct sunlight from sunrise till noon, then bright indirect lighting, lastly my community tank has an old pleco, 4 danios, 4 cherry barbs, some blood fins and female bettas...any ideas?
