What is wrong, my female guppy has a swollen spot on her side. When I got her she was a pale-ish coler with a red tail. Now on her side where her tail starts it is swollen, and white, really white. And its kinda bumpy.

there is no point to take a photo now, unless you want me to take a picture of a dead fish.

could have been dropsy...but cant really say accurately without a pic, sorry for your loss :rip:

Size of tank in gallons please?
How many fish and which type?
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph?

Did her tummy looks swollen?
Did the scales start to stick out?
The spot on the side did it looks hard, or soft filled with fluid?
What was the colour of the spot please?
Did the spot have any red, pink areas. Like a circling of red, or pink around the edges. Or a red, pink, centre?

Sorry for your loss.
R.I.P.

You may want to isolate her asap before it spreads. Hope she survives.

Sorry for your loss. If there would have been a picture I would have been able to help you and tell you what it is.

P.S: No, I would not like to see a picture of a dead fish as I have seen one before!

Well it has spread to another fish, my male guppy that looks exactly like her, and its spreading faster on him, so it is not pregnancy  I don't get it, everyone says at the pet store that guppies are good for begginers and are easy to keep, all my guppies are dying. Out of the 7 guppies I got, 3 of them have died, and 1 is probally about to die.

Sorry I got 5 guppies, 3 died, and 1 is probally about to die

I'm really sorry that you have just started fishkeeping and you're having all this bad luck. Please don't be put off the hobby.

Do you know what 'cycling' a tank means?

If not, click this link: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/277264-beginners-resource-center/ and have a good read, I guarantee it will help you find out what is happening with your tank and answer some questions you may have.

PS. I have been fish keeping for 7 years, and I cannot manage to keep guppies alive for longer than a month, trust me, i've tried. I keep platies mostly, they are very playful, hardy and they are gorgeous fish! So easy to breed. :)

Oh and one more thing! People at pet stores will say anything if it will make you buy fish from them. If you have any questions about fish, never ask people at pet stores, it's all rubbish... Read things online and come to this site and ask questions. :good:

Thanks, I think I am going to keep platies and mollies. And yes the mollies in a 20 gallon, platies in a 10.

And yes I know what cycling means, and I had my tank set up for 3 weeks before I got fish, and to admit it, I didn't have it set up for the cycling (cause I didn't know what it was then) I just hadn't gotten fish yet. I guess my fish got lucky

I am not sure why you are having this problem because I have had 3 guppies for 2 years and they were fine. Now one of them has died after giving birth but they she has lasted a long time and I never had problems. Poor thing :(

Ok I got some API Super Ich Treatment and put a treatment in last night. It makes your water blue for a few hours , anyways, the male guppy with Ich looks like hes getting better, I have to put another treatment in tommorow night.
