Its not that old not even 2 years old, but it going really slow, then it sort of freezers.
Thinking of buying another one, or can it be fixed.
Thanks.

you probably have a ton of spyware/adware and maybe a virus

get lavasoft ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and AVG free
just google the names and go the first site that comes up

run all 3 of those programs and that will help out, also you may want to cut down on the amount of programs you are running in the background
but this should only be done by someone who is comfortable doing it and who knows what they are doing

get a friend with a bit of know how to backup, then format and rebuild...

Windows is great at getting clogged up :(

The obvious thing is to also ensure that your Windows O/S is up to date.

Assuming you have a legal copy, these updates are for free & can make a hell of a difference. Updates should happen automatically, if you don't think this is the case, go: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates: Ensure 'Automatic (recommended)' is selected.

Also, enable the firewall. Windows one is pretty pathetic, but better than nothing. Again: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Security Centre -> Windows Firewall: Ensure 'On (recommended)' is selected.

The best firewall out there (that I use) is Sygate Personal Firewall Pro.

Thanks everyone.
Did a full system scan everthing was 0.
Updates it updated when I turned the computor off, could this of made it really slow before.

It's late, I'm tired and I'm therefore thicker than normal!

Could you put that another way, I don't get what you said there!

Sorry.

Sorry writing not that good.
Its back to normal now, must of been the widows updates.
Thanks for your help.

Your advice is alway good underwurdle. :good:

The recent windows update process cause me all sorts of problems too. A mixture of the updates ad me using a new application which accessed the internet, caused my company firewall to ban me from the internet (it was proper use too for once ;) ), screwed up the MS update and caused one of the SVCHOSt.EXE processes to take up all of the CPU resources and slow the computer down..

If the PC really does run like a complete dog or hangs, try (depending on OS version) CTL ALT DEL, select task manager, then the processes tab. You can sort these by CPU or memory, and it will often give you an indication as to which application is causing the issue and hogging resources. DON'T go ending the processes unless you know what your doing though. Ending applications on the applications tab is a safer bet if an application really is not responding. But.. depending on how knackered it is, sometimes this won't work either or takes aaages..

try defragging it and then a disk clean up, or even better buy some more RAM :shifty:

try defragging it and then a disk clean up, or even better buy some more RAM :shifty:
it would be better to do a disc clean up then defrag
the point of a defrag is to clean up all the holes on the drive created by deleting things,
so there is no point defragging then going around making holes again :p

Defragging is a process that makes fragmented files contiguous, thus when reading any one file the HHD heads simply does one long scan of the platter surface and does not have to go physically hunting around for bits and pieces of it and thus (ever so slightly) speeds up the file read process. Doing a defrag before / after a cleanup will there make no difference.

Complete waste of time IMHO, many drives 'look ahead' and buffer into RAM anyway. Inherent from the days of 486's when doing this would have made a difference.
