I got home from a funeral, I was gone for 2 days and they went un-fed, I get back and look at my favorite fish Fatty(a BP) and he has a big black blotch on top of his head, I can get a picture but it would be hard.

Check out www.parrotcichlid.com They have quite a few articles about black spot on BP's.

I don't think it is anything serious, maybe just stress related.

HTH,

Barb

Agree with Barb - could there be any potential problems with his tankmates? fighting/dominance etc?

No I got him intentionally because in the store he was the boss of the tank and he's bigger then my convict and FM, he's the boss of this tank, he has 2 caves that he has claimed as his own, could the lights being left on for over 24 hours have caused it? I had to run out the door as fast as possible so I didn't have much time to leave people in instructions.

Could be the lights - BP's can be such stressful little (or big) things sometimes - shame there aren't fish shrinks for them, lol.

Let us know how he is tomorrow - hopefully the mark will have gone down somewhat if the lighting's gone back to normal (maybe there was just too much "daylight" for his liking/not a normal daily occurrence for him).

Finger's crossed.

:good:

p.s. should ask - i assume the other fish are all okay/acting normal?

Black patches can be ammonia burns that are healing, so check your stats.

Yes water change and good water quality.

His tank mates are just peachy, they are there normal selves, and so is he except the black blotch on him, I also noticed there is a little bit of black spread out on his tail fin. He's eating and playing with me like he normally does aswell.
