They are too small for a betta:

*Note: This information is pertaining to keeping just one betta in these containers. Much of this information can apply, though the significance is even more pertinent when two betta are kept together in these tanks. This does not include the stress put upon said fish when kept together.

  1. When the gravel and decorations, if any, are placed into the bowl they displace water. Thusly making what little water the container can hold even less.
  2. Because of the small volume of water held in these containers, the waste products of the fish can and will degrade the quality of the water. NH3 and consequentially NO2- ( the waste products of fish ) are highly dangerous even in small, trace amounts.
  3. Over exposure to these chemicals, even in small amounts, will inadvertently lead to health problems. Several diseases and infections exclusively stem from bad water quality. Bad water is caused by the buildup of harmful chemicals in the water.
  4. Because of the small amount of water held by these containers, they experience rapid and dramatic temperature fluctuations. This will lead to stress being put on any inhabitant of the container. Stress lowers the immune system, thus increasing the risk of infection and disease. Which, will be more rampant in a smaller container because of the inability to dilute harmful NH3 and NO2-.
  5. Bettas are tropical fish, thus they need an average temperature of at least 75 degrees F. Temperature swings in such a small contain are inevitable. Thus leading to the inhabitant being exposed to temperatures well below it's accepted level.
  6. Colder temperatures also lead to lethargy, which increases the risk of the inhabitant getting sick.
  7. Lethargy and depression is also caused by cramped quarters. The inability to get exercise, in addition to leading to lethargy, causes a drop in the immune system.

And the Kicker:

A: This is taken from an actual quote of an owner of this devise: "Also, changing the water in the betta hex is not as easy as you guys may think. Its really hard to take the bettas out with a net therefore it does not take 5 minutes but in fact 20 - 25 Minutes."

Changing the water in a tank of at least 1 gallon is simple, easy, and takes well less than 10 minutes to change even 100%.

Good Job.

I'm pretty sure your sarcasm, inability to consider advice reasonably, and most of all, unintelligent reasoning is starting to get a bit old with quite a few members here. Or perhaps I speak for myself.

If you were truly here to have some questions answered, you would have certainly had a much friendlier demeanor in you posts.

Snooks, thanks for the condensed summary of why you believe betta hexes are not suitable housing for bettas.

He only made that topic because of mine. He also quoted me so I just thought I should at least provide a positive comment on his post.

As for you, I don't know who you are so Hello.

I was reading one yesterday, same subject, same guy and I thought it got shut down. Also, without overstating the obvious about fish keeping for those who are apparently offended by scientific advise on toxic chemicals and stuff, a Betta is a regular fish and you should kept in in a regular tank with regular filtration and cleaned regularly, the bigger the tank, the less frequent the water changes etc ...and by the way Egyptian Camel, Calcium, Iron and many other minerals are fat soluble which means you need to consume it with a fat(or in fat such as milk) in order for your body to absorb it
