Hi,

Can someone tell me what's up with my Danios gill and what i can do to help him.

Tank size:180 litres
pH:6.4
ammonia:0.25ppm
nitrite:0ppm
nitrate:20ppm
kH:
gH:
tank temp:79

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): Something sticking out of his gill.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: Around 35% every week.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Eheim Professional 2 + Jewel Rio 180 included filter.

Tank inhabitants: 7 Zebra Danios, 2 Rainbow fish, 2 upside down catfish, 2 ottos, 1 bristlenose plec, 1 talking catfish and 4 bamboo shrimp

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None

Exposure to chemicals: Stress coat, only into fresh water being added when doing water change.

Digital photo (include if possible): Uploaded to tinypic.com. Links at bottom of page.

I have already added aquarium salt and i don't want to add any medication as it will kill my shrimp. I don't have a hospital tank although i do have another tank which i could move my shrimp too. My tank has been up and running for just under 2 years. Any help would be appreiciated.

Thanks

Your ammonias a bit high. It has to be 0 as it is very toxic to fish.

Try do 10% water change every day until it goes to 0.

Is it just the one gill that is red like that? Is there something actually sticking out or is it inside the gill, inflamed maybe?

Your ammonia for some reason is a little high, obviously you want it to be 0 is there any reason that you know of which would have caused it to rise?

I would not be adding salt to your tank, the plecs and catfish do not appreciate salt.

Yeah it's just one gill that is like that. It's hard to tell what is wrong with the gill because it's always swimming about, but it could be imflamed. The only reason i could think of the ammonia being a little high is because i never cleaned or done any water changes the first to 2 and a half weeks of the year because i was floored with the flu
