Hi Guys,

I picked up some new corydoras yesterday from someone in the area and they chucked in some neon tetra's for free. However after looking at them today I have noticed that a few of them have a weird bubble like growth on it and I am really concerned about what it is and if i should get them out ASAP before it affects the rest of my tank but by doing this it would pretty much mean killing them as I have nowhere for them to go :S

That should be a link to the picture of them I also have a video but it's not ready yet so will add it in a bit.

This is the video hope it helps I can try and get better pictures if you want?

I think it could be columnaris. In the last picture, that neon tetra seems to also have an area at the back that's affected as well as his fins. That same tetra also has a white spot at the front which looks suspiciously like ich.

The fish you bought, were they in the same tank as the neons?

If you did not quarantine, then sadly all your other fish are at risk now as well. Before you buy fish, always check them over for any signs of disease, if there are any sick fish in the tank, don't buy any from that tank (maybe not even from that store, fish from tanks that have signs of an illness should not be made available to be sold).

I don't know what medications to suggest to you, hopefully a more knowledgeable member will come by soon and help you out better than I could,

Right so I have removed the tetra's. They are currently in a bag floating on the tank. 3 are ok and 3 look worn and ill.

The cory's I got with them look absolutely fine.....at the moment but just need to know what to do from now? What should I do with the tetra's? SHould I dispose of them in some way?

Thanks

Ben

So what do I do from here put them back in or get rid of them? I don't have the option to quaranteen them

I would put the ones that seem ok in their own bag.  There is a chance that they might not get it.  You can freeze them if you don't want to spend the money on them. It is a human way to get rid of the fish, don't flush them while alive.  Or you can leave them to their own fate, chances are they will not recover.

I recently had illness in my tank too.  It makes me really sad, I'm sorry you have to deal with it. It isn't fun.

Hmm, not the best advice to encourage people to euthanise their fish in order to save a few pounds / bucks on meds.
I like to see people give advice to OP to try and give the fish a chance of survival rather than just leaving them to their fate.

Also IMO freezing fish is not really considered the best way of euthanising either, some people will say clove oil is a more humane way.
Although you are absolutely correct in saying do not flush them in toilet while alive.

Sorry to be a little negative on your post while I know you are trying to be helpful

Its ok, it just thinks that I have heard.  But pet medications where I live is super expensive.  I don't know if its like that for everyone, and I don't have more than two pet stores available. But I am not really offended so don't worry. :) I just try to help.

I have separated all 6 into a bag which is floating on top of the tank at the moment and they all look really tatty and old and worn. Some look really bad, I'm stuck as to what to do I don't want them in the bag and don't want them in my tank. If I had another filter I could always but them in a bucket but I don't have that either :s

I think I'd bring them back to the store. If the fish were sick before they "gifted" them to you they did a disservice to you and your other fish. Or you may want to pick up a ten gallon (even second-hand) that you could use as a quarantine or hospital tank!
