hello all. wants the smallest tank size in litters for:

1 betta fish?
2 betta fish male and female?

A male betta will be fine in a 20l.

You shouldn't keep a male and a female together until such times as you are trying to spawn them - and then you don't take your eyes off them. The female gets removed as soon as they have finished spawning.

And especially never have two males together.

I agree.  20L for a single betta fish with a heater.

20L it best but 13L is ok as long as the necessary water changes are done and a heater is added.

cool.. yes will have a 25watt heater and a internal small filter and water changes every week same time has my other tank..whats the best to use for betta fish sand or gravel?

i was researching that have them in separate tanks so they can see each other but have something in between  the tanks at times. and wait till the male has made a bubble nest to add the female and once female spawns/lay eggs remove her and the male will tend to the eggs. something like that lol.. will be doing alot more research before i wont to mate them.!

It's great that you're doing research before breeding. Good job! :)

I'm afraid if you tried breeding with your current set-up, you're going to be a bit disappointed. The fry need room to grow. What's fine for a single adult male is not so fine for hundreds of baby fish. You might be successful, but you might lose all the fry as well as the mom and dad.

A better set up might be a 5 gallon for the male to recover in after the fry, a 5 gallon for the female after breeding, and a 10 gallon for the two to breed in. I'm not sure what that would be in litres. :-/

think ill get one male for now then in the future get a female and the bigger tanks. ill post pics up once iv set up the tank and found the right betta :)

Wonderful! I'm so looking forward to seeing your new fish and setup. :)
