Whats The Most Sought After/desirable Mbuna?

thinking about stock for my up and coming tank and will be looking to breed them.i dont want to be stuck with dead common fish that sell for much or even give away, so what species are most desirable/rare to find.what species would be on your wish list.are there any uncommon colours perhaps? cheers!

I don't know how common the are for you guys, but over here pseudotropheus demasoni http/www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=849 are still hard to get a hold of. They average 10-20 US dollars a fish!

I find them easy to get but £8-10 for a juvie so not cheap. Worth every penny though.

Demansoni although great little fish are all over the place there is some in every lfs down here.

Well I wish someone would start breeding them around here. Hmm, that may be something to think about.

10-20$ US a fish Wish ours were that cheap...even the common cichlids are up there for us.

Neolamprologus Brevis: I have one that i found was misshipped at my LFS and i got it for 20$ AUD, but trying to find a mate for it I can only find them from one little breeder in far north queensland(about 3500km away). Add to that a pricetag of 120$ for a 2.5-3cm fish plus freight and you start to see my point. Thats what id get if i wanted a rare fish.

It would seem we have cheap fish in the UK - it's a shame everything else is astronomical. Petrol near as dammit £1 per litre.

I love peakoks( spelled wrong). And you can pick up demasoni here for 6 dollars.

demasoni in my area average $26cnd, i personally would breed dems but thats because of the very low numbers that my lfs has, average 2 at most times

The population of Flavus in Lake Malawi is considerably lower than most Mbuna species that you see in LFS hence they are fairly hard to get hold of. In terms of behaviour etc, they are moderately aggressive - quite similar to P.Elongatus in that respect. I've only ever had 1 - years and years ago and i quite simply haven't seen them for sale anywhere since.

I`ll agree with Flavus ( I think they are overrated TBH)

I would also add Mbmebe Deeps and Polits.
