i got a 6 litre tank that i dont use would this be big enough to keep a betta happy

It depends on the fish but i would never go smaller than 1.5gal (6ltr?) - thats strictest minimum. Some people will say 5gal (25ltr?) is the smallest you should use but thats not always the case. The thing is each betta is different. One of my boys builds huge bubblenests in a 2gal but if i put him in a 5 he is miserable.

I would agree with the above. Its down to the individual fish. I had a HMPK in a 25g and at first he loved it but after a while just hid in the corner. I transferred him to a 2g bowl and he blew a big nest the first night. I do personally believe bettas prefer 5g and under, and it's the exception rather than the rule for those who don't.

^^Agree
Though I keep my 2 females in a 5.5 and one male of mine was kept in a 1 gall. He was happy, but I think he would have been happier in a larger tank... Though I couldn't at the time... I also have a friend who keeps hers in a .5 gall.. And He has lived for a year and some. He is not HAppy though... It all depends.

Though I would like to correct you on your spelling of Betta. You put Beta It is pronounced Bet (like betting on something) Uh so bet-uh not Bait uh. Just so you know :D

Good luck with your *new betta* (if you have one yet :))

I generally accept a gallon as the minimum but some fish REALLY like to have space. I've had a few females that have just adored living in a 55 gallon. I only had two in there(not good) but they kind of both had their own territory and didn't bother each other. Since I keep a few empty 10 gallons around that's where I kept males when I had them. They never acted stressed out. My dwarf platies absolutely hated anything bigger than a 10 gallon though. They would all huddle schooled in a corner.
