I have a pair that I want to breed, and I have a 3 foot tank that I would use to spawn them and then use as a growout for the fry but it doesnt have a hood so I cant use that.
Whats the absolute minimum for a grow out? I could get a 2 foot tank with a hood cheaper than what I could get a hood for the 3 foot is all.
Also the male I would like to breed only does quite small bubble nests, would this be a problem? This biggest he has done was probably around 3 inches across. If this would be a problem I have a rescue VT who does bubble nests covering over 3/4 of his tank! They are HUGE! Ill have to get a pic soon and show you. I could take some of his nest couldnt I to help the 1 I want to breed?
Dont worry, Im in no rush to breed as I want to do it properly its just when I have the money Id like to either get a hood for the 3 foot or a 2 foot tank and I want it all planned in advance so nothing goes wrong (hopefully!)
Any help would be great, thanks!

i woundt breed in a 3ft tank. They will lose each other. For growout tanks it realy depends on the size of the spawn.I would say that 3ft would be perfect.I would use a 2ft for breeding and the 3ft for a grow out.It doesnt matter about the hood but have the water level about 5-7 inchs lower than the top of the tank. :good: good luck,Ben

I thought the air temp had to be warm so as when the fry come up for a breath it doesnt shock them? Or am I wrong? I was going to use a divider in the 3foot to section off the spawning area and when the fry are big enough remove the divider and slowly add more water.
Also I think a hood is a must for me, I have 2 mad kittens running around lol.
Thanks for your advice!

there need a warm humid above the tank for there first gulps. Its so there organ thingy develops properly.

yes they definitely need humidity for there laborynth organ to develope, if you need to, use plastic wrap to cover majority of the tank and make sure the tank is close to 80 degrees at all times. you could tape a half cut styrofoam cup to the side of your tank so he can use that to build his bubblenest under, i have to use that for my bettas that dont seem to want to build big bubblenests too. i suggest a 2.5 gallon tank to a ten gallon tank and the water should be about 5 inches high so when the eggs drop he doesnt have a long way to go to keep picking them up and placing them in the nest. sorry if i gave you too much info lol i get carried away. good luck :good:

I would use the 3 feet tank for grow out and the 1 foot tank for the breeding. I don't think the small bubble nest will be much of a problem.
