So I have a 20G Betta sorority that's gone 9 days without a water change thus far.
I was wondering what is the longest other members have gone without doing a water change?
I know it's relative to tank size, and stock.
Anyways my own tank is getting pretty algae ridden because it's near a window. I haven't cleaned it because I'm planning on moving it and I'm waiting for someone to come over who can help me move it because it's just big enough that I'm not confident to lift it by myself.

Anyways, I'm feeling rather guilty about it because as I said, it's looking pretty messy and I'm hoping someone else has done this and come out okay so I don;t have to feel so guilty about it :p
(I know algae doesn't really hurt the fish, but it makes me feel bad that they have to live in it)

Ok, since I properly learnt about fish care (as before, I never even did water changes!!) it has been a maximum of nearly four weeks!!!

I know, I know, I went on holiday to visit my folks with the little ones. Hubby had an accident with an angle grinder at home, our van broke down so I was stranded up country. Hubby had arm in plaster and couldn't do my water changes, I was stressed about getting back and what state my tanks would be in!

I have completed the last water changes today!

180 litre had an 80% water change a few days before I left on 3rd July I think it was (as tank needed moving for decorating) we only got to move it back yesterday (2/8/13) and it had an 85% water change - haven't yet checked parameters yet but have taken the water to do so. It is heavily planted, but equally quite well stocked.

54 litre had a 35% water change on the 5th July - houses a betta and 6 neons. I changed 35% of the water today (3/8/3) would have liked to of changed more but only ad so much RO available.

22 litre - houses a betta which had an 80% WC 5/7/13 and 85% today.

Stressful!!! I'm never going to leave them that long again, I was only meant to be gone two weeks, and it turned out nearly a ruddy month!!

Exactly i did not know as well that you had to do water changes but it did not affect the fish as i was under stocked. But since i have known the longest i have gone was about 2 and half weeks ( it was when i had exams and i found no time because i was revising )

5 weeks. The guy who was looking after my fish whilst I was on vacation ran out of prime cos he was using too much do he didn't do any water changes. Fish were fine though, :)

I reserve the right to invoke my fifth amendment right not to incriminate myself.
But, since I have learned about how to properly keep fish, and not just have them, about six weeks. Due to an injury. Stats stayed spot on.

The longest was 2 weeks before NO3 became 20ppm. I keep my tanks...very understocked. :p

Honestly 4 months

2 months for me... bad period in my life - far too crazy.

Usually the longest between cleanings is two weeks.  Weekly or even semi-weekly are the norm for me.

14 years (honestly) is the longest I've gone without cleaning a tank, but that's the time I had away from keeping fish :p
Of late the longest has been 4 weeks.
