Hi,

I've had one type of anubias plant in my tank for almost as long as I've had the tank. It was doing beautifully, even producing "baby" plants. I noticed not long ago that the leaves were damaged... they had holes producing a lacy look to them. Here's the circumstances that changed:

1) I did a cleaning in which I removed a good portion of the gravel, cleaning it more thoroughly and replacing it.
2) I added two algae eaters to the tank
3) I added a new plant, a purple krinkle that is just barely hanging on now (My tank is a lower light environment, I had hoped natural light from a nearby window would help but it didn't)
4) I noticed a snail hitchhiked into the tank on the purple krinkle. I'm perfectly happy to let him stay.... unless he's the cause of my plant problems.

Any ideas what did it? I've since added another anubias and... something else. I just got them a few days ago, so want to find out what the issues is before it gets to them.

Thanks in advance!!

My fish (barbs of different species) line up and will ritually attack the anubis for reasons I dont know. If you have fish, they could be taking small chunks out of the leaves. If this is not the case just put a supplement in the water and try to get the plant to outgrow or fight its ailments. Some plants are just weaker strains and need extra attention. I currently use an 18,000 K powerglo fluorescent bulb and Tetraflora plant food supplement.
