there is so much plant coverage at the surface that the bottom of the tank is starting too get too shaded. i also have no idea what kind of light i have on it, i just bought it at the pet store and i feel like i can do better.

the plant life consists of mostly wisteria, a few swords (big and small), some ferns (not java ferns... but i dont remember what they're called), some moneywort, and a little anubias.

the fish are a dwarf gourami, white clouds, a dwarf frog, corys, and shrimp.

its a 20 gallon long (30 inches), co2 injected, tons of hiding places, the temp at about 73f

i want to get the brightest light i can to encourage plant growth.

You need to look at the wattage. High light is usually around 4-5 watts per gallon ( I think) any higher I think will just use power to a ridiculous extent. I think there are several adjustable models with a high output around, just do some looking around and see what suits I can't recommend an exact model. Also make sure it is a white light, plants require a very specific part of the spectrum to photosynthesize efficiently, white light obviously gives out all the colours of the Spectrum, don't get one of those orange lights that says 'great for plants' they are not.
