When you disconnect they supposidly cut the water of straight away, have a bucket just incase it goes wrong. then wash your media in used aquarium water.

You cant remove the pipes from the filter, with out shutting the water valve. You may get the odd drip, but it will be fine.
Rember to rinse the sponge and filter media in old tank water, no to damage the friendly bacteria with tap water

I have the 206 and service it about once a month.

I do the whole cleaning thing in tank water, in a bucket.

1. Take the red sponge tray out and squeeze the sponges in the water, put them back in the tray and to one side.
2. I have a bag of carbon in the top tray, I clean the bag and replace the carbon granules.
3. Replace/clean the filter floss by squeezing it in tank water then reassemble the media tray.
4. Rinse the ceramic bio-balls in tank water, in the tray and put to one side with the sponges and the filter floss tray.
5. I replaced the bottom carbon foam for Bio-foam and I simply squeeze that out in the water and replace. If I had the carbon foam pads, I'd replace them once a month.
6. Unclip the impeller cover and rinse it off. Click the impeller cover again.
7. Empty the old, partially filtered water into the toilet/bath tub/where you put your old water.
8. Reassemble the filter and get it functioning again after the water change.

I am meticulous when cleaning my filter and do everything by the book. If there's one thing I don't want an issue with, it's the every day running of the filter. The only thing I don't do regularly is clean the tubes because it's a headache in the form of slimey, smelly gunk that you thought you'd never have to deal with when entering the hobby.
