Will Tropical Fish Flakes be ok, or the Tropical Color Enhancing Fish Flake for general food.

What other treats should they get?

Thanks :hyper:

For omnivores, it's a good idea to keep their diet varied. I feed them mostly the tropical color enhancing flakes and the algae flakes, but I mix in some frozen bllodworms, frozen tubiflex worms, frozem brine shrimp from time to time.

i just feed flakes, give them wafers (in a community fish tank with bottom feeders) and bloodworms.

I feed mine flakes, veggie flakes, frozen bloodworm and once a week live daphnia - they adore them and it's fun to watch the fish chasing after the food :D

I believe that varied diet creates a much healthier enviroment, and means the fish are far more fit healthy and breedable:

I feed A livebearer food by Nutrafin(Mixture of Tubifex, high protein flake), A 49% protein discus sinking pellet interspersed(Its what fish shops usually use), Algal Wafers (actually for pleco but platies love em), Sinking shrimp pellets(actually for panda cories, but again they love em, if they are game to fight the pleco and 6 pandas for em), A frozen vege mix i make(peas/plant material and a couple of little secrets), Frozen BBS and Daphnia every now and then(particularly when a pregnancy is near to term to help induce birth). And of course Live brine shrimp as a treat.

As you can tell i spoil my fish  but they love me for it. Small feedings and more of them seems to be the key: I often do 3 a day. Fish love their variety.

I haven't kept my platies long, but I give them anywhere from 3 to 5 feedings a day. In the morning I'll give them flakes, at 5pm, a half a teaspoon of frozen brine shrimp, and after that a clip of lettuce before I go to bed. Also every 3 days they get live tubifex worms, and if I find it I give them live blackworms. I've had platies in the past live anywhere from 3 to 5 years on this diet.

I haven't kept my platies long,

That made me sound stupid . I meant I haven't kept these platies long.

Hi, can I ask how exactly you feed them peas? Do you mash it up or something? I was thinking of doing something like that, but I don't actually know how you feed it to them. XP

I actually blanch all the veges i use, and then food process them, before mashing. One of my additions is freeze dried brine shrimp, its designed to be nutrious and high in protein.

...what's blanching? XP I would really like to give my platies something a little more interesting to eat now and then, other than the boring flakes and granule food.

boil them till they soften, then remove them from hot water and place in cold water: prevents the nutrients being lost as much.

OK... thanks! I might try doing something like that tomorrow... hopefully they eat it! For some reason, my platies are really fussy eaters... :p I'd like to give them a more varied diet, though.
