So I have been reading and am finding conflicting information. For instance I have read that bala sharks are compatible and that they are not. Same with guppies. So what do you have with your angelfish? What worked and what didn't?

I like a school of the larger more robust tetras ( lemons or serpaes ) with angels. Maybe golden barbs. I would never put any shark with angels. Most of the larger Cory's will be fine. I would never put any livebearer with Angels.

I kept Apistogramma, Ancistrus, and medium size Corydoras with angels without any issues. Slim body tetras such as cardinals and rummynose are not good tankmates for angels.

I keep Black Neons Tetras, Ornate Tetras, German Blue Rams, a Bristle Nose Pleco, and lately a single female beta (beta wasn't planned) with Angels in one tank. My wife keeps Dwarf Neon Rainbows, a Pearl Gourami, two Sterby Corys (rescues) and a small freshwater Gobi in another tank with Angels. In both tanks the Angels do not cause any issues but the Rainbows are a bit too busy and I wouldn't recommend those to be in with Angels unless you had a tank longer than 48". I also have a mated pair of Angels that do not live with anyone else now because they get overly aggressive, they have to suffer the 20 gallon tank for now.

I used to have an angelfish with black skirt tetras and serpae tetras. The angelfish would never bother the serpae tetras but he would occasionally dart at the black skirt tetras probably because of the flowing fins of the black skirts.

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

How big are the angelfish?

--------------------
Bala sharks can reach 8-10 inches, live in groups and need a huge tank.

Guppies need water with a pH above 7.0 and a GH around 200ppm.

Angelfish come from water with a pH below 7.0 and a GH below 100ppm.

--------------------
Suitable tank mates include fishes that come from similar water and won't attack the angelfish's fins or become a meal for the angelfish. Bigger peaceful tetras, Corydoras and most other smallish catfish, dwarf cichlids, peaceful gouramis, peaceful barbs.

I'm gonna test the water this weekend and go from there. Still planning the fish. I'm liking gouramis so far. My husband was thinking some shrimp for cleanup crew. Oh and the tank is 60 gallons, 4ft long.

I've kept my 2 Angels with Gourami(Dwarf and Opaline), Cory Cats, Skirt Tetras, Danios, Neon Tetras, Mollies, Platies, Plecos, Dwarf Frogs, Snails, and Ghost Shrimp. The Angels have been in two different tanks because they were eating my Neons. I've only had issues with my Angels eating or messing with my Neons and Ghosts. They get along with everything else they've got along great with everything else I've kept them with.

So everything is in the tank except fish. Tested the water.

GH-75
NO2-0
NO3-0
CL2-0
CH-40
PH-7.1

It'll be strips as the tests include chlorine but not ammonia :)
