Whats Happening Here?

with that size tank and that many fish theres really no need to do a water change every 4 days, do roughly 50% or a bit less at the end of each week, could maybe even go a bit more than a week with the amount of fish you have.as for the thing on the keyholes eye could it maybe be some kind of fluke or a small leech of some kind?

Sorry missed the eye thing, what's on the eye.

It's not exactly on his eye, just directly below it on his cheek, his eyes are clear. Looking at it this morning it was so white! and seemed to have not gotten bigger but gotten longer, and sticks out more from the side of his face. Then I went back to check it and it seems to have popped, as it's just a small white spot now. Also, looking at him compared to the other keyhole, I think his anus looks a little swollen and pink. But not by much...

I'm just about to have my breakfast then head off to get some antibiotics so I'll start treatment this afternoon. And any food I give them I'll soak in some garlic juice.

Thanks!

Water changes on the tank as if its burst it now infected the tank.
A enlarged anus that also looks red inflamed can be internal parasites, so check when the fish goes to the toilet what it looks like.
A swollen or enlarged anus can also be dropsy, is the fish bloated.

Sorry for replying so late! Stupid uni exams! >_<

Upon closer inspection, I don't think his anus is swollen, I may have just been paranoid. He's not bloated and he poops fine. I've now started my antibiotics treatment. I've taken the water level down past the filter outlet so there is a small waterfall to increase the water agitation as I don't have a spare airpump.

I have enough tablets to treat for 5 days, is that long enough? I'm very broke at the moment and I can't really afford much more as they were a bit expensive. (incredibly poor uni student here  )

Also, once the treatment is finished, do I need to change ALL the water in the tanks and put fresh stuff in?

Thanks!

Ok so it seems that I also have a case of white spot too, as there are 2 small white spots on one of my harlequins. Must have been what that key hole had...

I'm guessing that I should keep treating the antibiotics first and get that out of the way before I start treating for white spot so as not to OD my fish on meds?

I just don't understand why I'm having this sudden outbreak of diseases! After 5 months of happy fish just now it happens to go bad. And it couldn't have come at a worser time, what with all the stress of uni exams too! :-(

What should I do about the white spot in the mean time until I can get rid of it?

thanks for all you help so far!

Never rains but pours.
Right phone the lfs to see if there any whitespot meds that they have that you can use with antibiotics.
If not you will have to do a water change and run some black carbon, then start the whitepot med.
Whitespot looks like the fish has been sprinkled in salt, or spots the size of a grain of salt.
If the spots are bigger it isn't whitespot.
My son just done his uni exams, so good luck with yours.

It isn't small spots though...kind of like what the keyhole had only slightly smaller as it's a smaller fish, right above its eyes. Is it some other sort of parasite or are my fish just going through the bad bit of puberty? >.>

Do you think after 3 days of treatment with the tough antibiotics I could stop treating for the prevention of septicemia, as there are no signs of infection with the other fish, and change the water to treat with a parasite med?

Just an aside, is it normal for antibiotics to make the water look heavily stained with tannin and make the water frothy on the top? Or is that just from my brand of meds?

Thanks again!

koinukun~

Yes antibiotics can stain the water and make it frothy.
If the spots are bigger its not whitespot, they can be bacterial, sometimes you will see redness in the white, it will be red around the edge, or a red centre.

Its not fungal is it? I've just lost a black molly which had white patch near its right hand side gill - it was kind of wispy and we've come to the conclusion its either fungus or column....whatever its called.

I have no idea. I don't think it is a fungus as it's not at all fuzzy, just looks like a large white pimple.

Also something new I discovered! I think the keyhole that I though had a swollen anus has some sort of worm parasite. Are these very harmful to the fish? He's still a greedy gust and hasn't bloated or lost any weight and is still active. They seem to be reddish in colour but it's difficult to see clearly as the water looks like a large cup of black tea from the antibiotics atm.

Obviously I need to get a internal parasite med now. Can you get meds that kill both internal and external parasites too?

Also I have to go away from Monday to Thursday next week, do you think my fish will be okay for a couple of days without the parasite meds?

Thanks!

Ok, so I did some research about what it could be and I came up with "Camallanus"

It says that I neet to treat it with Internal Parasite Guard, Pipzine, Disco-Worm, Trichlorfon or Fluke-Tabs as well as a medicated food to prevent a bacterial infection. Does this sound right?

Also, what is a medicated food? Do you buy them already made or do you mix something up?

It sucks that whenever I'm up and needing to know what to do everyone is asleep. Stupid time difference! >.>

You can get medicated foods that treat bacterial infections and parasites but don't know if there available in your country.

After doing research on camallanus is there anything I can really do? It sounds like the only way to get rid of it is to either battle it for ever and spend heaps on costly meds or just euthanize and start again from scratch... My keyhole seems to not be as bright as he was and looks a bit thinner, and the other keyhole has it now too.

What I was thinking of doing was taking my angelfish out and putting him in the Q-tank and pray he hasn't got it. (He's my baby and I don't want to loose him at all costs) Then treating both my main tank and the Q-tank with a parasite med.

If it is cured hurray! If not, would it be the best option to get rid of all my fish, plants and gravel, boil all my decorations, bleach the tank and start from scratch? I'm so depressed about this whole event and I'm on the verge of just giving up!

any advice is greatly appreciated!

thanks :-(
