Hi all

First of all sorry for any spelling mistakes in this post am posting from my iPhone.... Right as some may have seen i left a post the other day about one of my guppies swimming upside down sadly it died shortly after the post, i then had another fish die the day after and i have had another on die this morning and i dont have a clue whats going on

I have done multiple water tests and two 75% water changes and other than the first fish that died none others have showing any signs of illness they seem perfectly fine then lose the ability to swim, lie on the bottom for a while then die i have another one that looks like its heading down that road any ideas on what i can do

I currently can not quarantine the fish as i dont have another tank for them to go into

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi, the following information is needed for us to help you: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/2330-please-read-before-posting-to-emergency-section/

If these fish were ever exposed to any amount of ammonia, I would say that that is a likely cause. Were these guppies shop bought?

1. Water parameters - Ammonia - 0ppm, Nitrite - 0ppm, Nitrate - 0ppm but had a slight orange tint. ph - 7.2-7.6, Temp is a a constant 26degree
2. A full description of the fishes symptoms. - None until minutes before they die they lose the ability to swim.
3. How often you do water changes and how much. - 25% every week
4. Any chemicals and treatments you add to the water. - Nutrafin Aquaplus every water change.
5. What tank mates are in the tank. Nothing other than guppies
6. Tank size. - 23L
7. Finally Have you recently added any new fish. - No the last 3 fish where added over 2 months ago

and they where shop bought months ago the first one that died was bought over 2 months ago and the 2nd that died was one of the first that was bought over 5 months ago

How big were they when you bought them and how big are they now? Have you observed any growth at all? Or improvement in tail colouration?

How many fish are in the aquarium and how did you originally cycle the filter when you first set it up?

By the way, it is usually more useful to know the dimensions of the tank instead of the volume, although in this case, it is unlikely to be a factor. Just in case though, how long is the tank?

currently now after the ones that have died there is now 4 left they where a good 3-5cm when i got them, tails where fairly colourfull they never got much bigger after that apart from one where its tail flared out a bit and got a bit more colourfull. I did a fishless cycle following the instructions on this site the tank is a fluval edge so off the top of my head i think its 43cm long by 26cm wide and 22.4cm high i think

I suspect that it was nothing that you did wrong. It could have been that the fish were old to start with (going by them being adult sized when you got them) and, at least in my experience, farmed guppies do have a tendency of dying off.

i would like to think its not something i have done but it just seems odd that they are fine one minute and they next there dying off one by one the first one to die was not small do 3-4cm compared to the others it seemed young just seems odd that the first to die was put in 2 months ago, then the 2nd was one of the first fish added to the tank from 5 months ago then this one today was one of the ones from 2 months to me it seems like its something wrong with the fishes health thats been transferred to each fish like ich going from one fish to another.

but they show no sign of any health problems and then they just go :/ :( hopefully the others will be fine and if nothing happens to them i will run the tank with just them in and see how it goes then i will think about replacing the ones i lost :(
