Hi guys,

My cryps are disintigrating, one leaf at a time. I'll notice a hole, or an area that is suddenly translucent or missing, and then the entire leaf--well, the section from the hole onwards--will disintigrate. Who's the culprit and how do I stop him?

Thanks,

erez

Water are your parameters?
Has there been a change in the water? maintainance, temp, anything?
is the plant new?
This is in the 20 gallon in your sig right?
Do you possibley have snails?

It could be crypt rot. See: http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Plants/crypts.html#3
IF it is, just leave the roots in place, it will grow new leaves.

Sounds like the dreaded crypt melt.
If you have changed temp, lighting, position of the plants, they sometimes do not like this and have what is refered to as cryt melt. The plants will grow back from this.
I had the same problem with my crypts when I increased my temp in my tanks for discus.

If its just a cycle, then I'm not so worried. I haven't changed my lighting or temperature at all--at least, not in the past month. I've slowly added more fish, which might have changed the water chemistry slightly. And I may be fertilizing a lot--though I've simply been following the instructions on the bottle.

As long as it grows back, that's ok... they're really pretty now--hopefully they'll go back to being pretty again.

Thanks,

erez
