Ok, so I got my new betta Rocky a few weeks ago. He has been doing great, eating like a little piggy and building bubbles nests.

This morning I checked on him, he was peachy keen, then when I got back from dinner tonight his tail fins were a WRECK. There are some holes in them, but mostly frayed ends. I just changed his water, too!

I've delt with fin rot before, but could it really set in that soon? And right after a tank cleaning??

He is in a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater at 80F and some java moss.

I'll post pictures when I find my camera.

Are you deffo its finrot?
i had something alot like this with my young male samuri he had an argument with the filter!
there are cases were bettas eat there fis when stressed?

My betta tore up his fins on one of the plants I had in my tank.. They can rip them pretty easy on the sharp edges of plastic plants.

I don't have any fake plants or sharp edges in his tank.

He might be nipping at his tail, he might have gotten to close to the heater when it was on?

I don't know, I've been monitoring it all day and it doesn't look like there has been any changes. No blacken edges, ect.

Maybe I'll throw some salt in his tank...

Sounds like a mix of tail chewing and blown fins. Does he flare a lot? When a betta flares too much they can blow their tail, which causes the little holes. Add some salt to help the tail heal, make sure his water is clean to prevent infection. Good luck
